  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 large apples, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup butter, melted or room temperature to cut in


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C) and line an 8×8 baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in vanilla extract and salt.
  3. Add flour gradually to form a dough, then press into the baking pan and bake for 15 minutes.
  4. In another bowl, combine sliced apples, flour, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  5. For the topping, mix flour with brown sugar and cut in the butter until crumbly.
  6. Layer half of the topping over the crust, followed by the apple mixture, then finish with the remaining topping.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for an additional 30 minutes until golden brown. Cool completely before slicing.
