Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground lamb
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 carrot, peeled and diced
  • 1 celery stalk, diced
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon rosemary
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (or soy sauce as an alternative)
  • 1/2 cup beef or vegetable broth
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas
  • Sweet potatoes (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the lamb filling: In a skillet over medium heat, warm the olive oil. Sauté the onion until translucent. Add garlic, carrot, and celery; cook until softened. Add the ground lamb and brown it. Stir in tomato paste, herbs, Worcestershire sauce, broth, and peas; let simmer for about 10 minutes.
  2. Make the sweet potato topping: Boil peeled sweet potatoes until fork-tender. Drain and mash them in the pot with salt and pepper until creamy.
  3. Assemble: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Spread the lamb mixture evenly in a baking dish and top with mashed sweet potatoes. Bake for about 25–30 minutes until heated through.
